Welcome to Agility From the Ground Up, a series of classes beginning with the fundamentals. Or… think of it as a circle of enthusiasts who are committed to learning the many aspects of the sport while helping their dogs excel.

The pressure is off and the fun is on!

All classes and instruction given are based on the science of animal learning. Behaviors are build step-by-step using reinforcement as well as the use of a marker (clicker).

The goal here is to make sure handlers and their dogs are successful in understanding and executing the task at hand before moving forward with more advanced work.

 Course 1:  (AG1): Saturdays Sept. 28th, Oct. 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th and Nov. 2nd  2019. 10-11am.  At C.H.A.C.O.’s training hub in Tesuque. Directions will be sent after registration & payment.

 NOTE: Registration closes on Wed. Sept. 25th at 5pm.
Covers learning theory (how dogs learn, including clicker training) reward procedures, good agility practices (safety, handling and focus work) and an introduction to working with “equipment.”

Course 2:
Will include: Strategies to get your dog “fired” and focused on the training, teaching dogs how to go around, between, over and under different pieces of “equipment” and building confidence around noise.

Course 3:
We hone in teaching our dogs proprioception (how they use their body in space). Dogs will have an opportunity to learn awareness and control of their rear end by learning how to step with precision forward, backward and sideways – all required when engaged in the sport; as well as Starts and Stays.

Courses 4, 5 and 6:
Will cover jumps and tunnels; fine-tune our handling system and communication with the dog by using proper body language as well as contact obstacles.

Trainer: Almudena Ortiz Cué M.A. CTC, CPDT, Tellington TTouch™ Cert.

Pre-requisites: Dogs must be 5 months or older to participate and at least one year of age for courses 4, 5 and 6.

First class orientation- no dogs.

Semi-private open to 4 guardians and 4 dogs.

They must be dog and people friendly (no lunging, growling at dogs or people).
Mini-courses build on one another so attendance to prior course is required to enroll on the next one or private session (s) prior to beginning of next course to catch up to the next “level”.

Proof of vaccines or proof up to date titer test.

NOTE: First class is a people only class. NO DOGS please. Directions to site will be provided a few days before class begins. Registration closes 3 days prior to class starting or when class is full. Almudena will contact participants the Wednesday before the first day of the course to confirm class is meeting.  A minimum of three participants must be enrolled and have paid by the Wednesday prior to course for class to take place.

Introduction to Parkour: 

As described by the International Dog Parkour Association (www.dogparkour.org)  Dog Parkour is thought of as urban agility. It is a fun activity that teaches dogs to safely and confidently engage with obstacles in the environment. Dogs are taught how to climb, balance, jump among other activities.  I would add that Dog Parkour can double as a fantastic and quick way to engage your dog mentally and physically. This class is ideal for dogs that need a “job,”  energetic dogs  (that are driving their people craa-zy!) as well as dogs that need to learn to enjoy novel things. 

In this introductory course we will work on having dogs climb, balance, step backwards and go around.

Requirements:

Open to 4 handlers and their dogs ages 5 months onward

Dogs are comfortable working around people and other dogs on leash. No lunging, growling or excessive barking.

Required Vaccinations:

Rabies, DHLPP (distemper & parvo) or titer test. Proof of vaccination required at first class.

The Details:

Saturdays: Nov. 9th, 16th, 23rd,  (SKIP Nov. 30th) Dec. 7th.  2019. First session is orientation without dogs. Class held at C.H.A.C.O.’s hub in Tesuque. Directions will be sent upon registration.
